Dogs, General

Training your dog is a very important step that will lead to a responsible and understanding dog. Training helps the owner to accustom the dog to the lifestyle of the owner. Training is a very lengthy and time consuming process and it is important that the dog starts noting the instructions. One of the best ways to train your dog is to give it treat when it properly performs an instruction. This is because the dog will be persuaded to do the instruction again as it will be rewarded with a treat every time it performs an instruction. It is common that everyone likes to be rewarded than being punished. This is the same for dogs and by rewarding them they will be more obedient and listen more carefully to the instructions. Positive reinforcement will help you effectively implement an instruction with the dog.

Treats for training

The treats that are used should be tasty so that the dog craves for more and the chances of doing the instruction right are more. The treat should not be very heavy and should be a small crunch item like a biscuit. The command should be given by holding up the food dish above the dog’s head. This will tempt the dog to get more treats by just following the instructions. Make sure that the treat is liked by the dog and placing an item that is not liked by the dog will lead to failure of the whole plan. This method of using treats can be used to train the dog to sit down, stand up, lie down and many other common instructions. It is important to praise the dog while giving the treat to the dog. This helps the dog to be motivated and perform the instruction without any resistance. The treats can be something like cheese or morsel that is craved by the dog. Training the dog with the help of treats is very effective and is one of the most followed techniques all over the world.

Choosing the right treat

This technique can also be used to train the dog to take medicines and less favoured foods like vegetables. Treats helps in making any tough training more pleasurable and also easy for the dog. It helps in eliminating punishment and also force that will put stress on both the owner and the dog. Treats that are healthy and tasty are better than unhealthy foods because it may lead to obesity in dogs. Puppies and big dogs will have different tastes and so treats should be given according to the taste of the dog. Puppies will prefer treats that are more like diary products and the adult dogs will like meat products. This should be kept in mind because it helps in keeping the health of the dog and also successfully train the dog. It is important that the treats are small snacks because if the treat becomes a little too heavy then the dog will tend to skip their regular meal which is a bad practise. Treats should be more like appetizers that will keep the dog happy.
