There are many cat toys available in the market but sometimes they become unreasonably expensive. Your cat certainly needs a toy to play with and at the same time to kill time. Toys do amuse them and fill their time or keep them out of trouble. If you find the toys that are available in the market a bit too expensive for you then, you can always make a cat toy by your self.

There are many things lying in your house that you can make something for your cat. Here are some tips you can follow to make some toys for your feline friend. Though it may take some time but it will make your cat happy.

Toys from box

For this you need an empty small cardboard box. Seal it all and then, cut a hole in a circular way in one end. Make the hole a bit bigger than the cat’s paw. Put some catnip or balls either by making it from small tissues. They will love to take out those small balls or treats out of the box with their paws.

Dangling cat toys

Cat loves to play with anything that dangles. It is very easy to make the dangling cat’s toy. If you have any old small toys then, attach it to a string and put it in a door knob. Try to attach the toy to the string in a strong grip so that it does not fall out while your cat is playing it.

If you want to make the dangling toy more fun then, take a piece of bamboo or any stick. Tie elastic in the end of the stick and on the other end of the elastic tie the old toys. You can put this in front of the cat and see how they play.

Toys from kitchen rolls

You can make any toys from the kitchen rolls. Take the inner roll and seal it on one end. You can put some dry treats, catnips or small toys inside the tube. Before you give it to the cat just shake it once and mixed all the goodies. Place it on the floor and see how your cat takes those goodies out by playing it and also having the treats at the same time.

Scratching logs

Get a dry log with barks still on it. Sprinkle some catnip on it and see how your cat loves to scratch it. Keep it in a corner of the house just in case you don’t want to fall on it.

Toys from foil

Take about 6 inches aluminium foil in a square shape and put some catnip in it and then crumple it into a ball. Most cats will prefer this than any expensive cat toys.

Stuff pillow

Any cat will love a small pillow to sleep or play with. It is quite easy to make the pillow. Take a soft piece of clothe and cut it in a long rectangular shape. Cut at least two rectangular shapes in equal size. Then stitch all three sides of it and put some cottons and catnip into it and stitch it all. Your cat will love to play with it all day long and also never let go of it while they sleep.

If you go to the market, you will see that there are tons of cat toys available. You might think that any of those toys will do great for your cat but it is not so. You should know whether your cat is a bugger, a mouser or a birder. You must first see what you cat prefers first before going ahead to buy the toys. The cats will have their own taste and own preferences when it comes to cat toys.

Types of cat toys

There are quite a lot of cat toys available according to their size, shape, materials, action or their purpose. Most of them may be designed to vibrate, squeak, move, twitter or swing rousing the cats to play with them. There are also natural substances like fur, feathers or leather are use to make the toys but some cats would prefer foil or plastic or even rubber from those. There are some toys that are enriched with catnip to stimulate the cats to play with the toy.
The ideal choice of toy for your cat will be the one which cat would prefer. You might find them out offering them a variety and see which one is their favourite.

Shopping tips for cat toys

Try not to buy too many cat toys at one time. That will distract the cat and they won’t be interested in any one of them later. You must have an idea what kind of toy your cat would prefer so buy that instead.

The first and main point you have to consider while you are buying the cat toy is safety. Always make sure that the toy does not have any small parts in it that you cat might swallow it and choke.

There are many toys which has catnip in it. The cat will obviously be attracted to it. You can buy those toys if you want and your cat will definitely love those.

Always buy the right size of toys for your cat. There are many sizes available and you might see which one might be the right one. Avoid buying big toys that are bigger than the cat itself. That would create a problem for your cat to play with.

Avoid those toys with feathers, strings, ribbons and small parts which can be easily pulled out by your cat. That would leave the toy unattractive as well as our cat might get uninterested.
The cat toy should be effective, safe, durable, strong and affordable. Don’t buy those ‘too much expensive ones’.

Tips for taking care of cat toys

It is important that you take care of the cat toys. They will be constantly chewed, bitten, pounced on and will wear out soon. Always check the appearance of the cat toys and see whether they are in good condition or not. Cats are clean and they won’t want to play with any dirty toys so it is better you wash the toys regularly. Try to give your cat different toys so that they don’t lose interest so soon.
